Welcome to our school library

Libraries have a special responsibility to support the process of learning to read, and to promote books and other media for children. Research indicates that children who are encouraged to read from an early age are more likely to remain life-long readers and library users.

At Boronia Heights State School we are fortunate to have a library dedicated to providing quality children’s literature to all our students from Prep to Year Six. We employ a qualified teacher-librarian with expertise in library science and Australian children’s literature to specifically develop a collection of literature that support the curriculum, caters for a wide range of literacy and learning needs and supports the emphasis and strategies of the school for effective learning and teaching.

Our collection includes picture books, fiction and non-fiction titles, Australian and International Award Winners and reference materials.

Lessons are timetabled for all students in Years 1-4 and all students are expected to borrow on a week or fortnightly basis.

Lessons are timetabled for all students in Years 5-6 and all students are expected to borrow on a fortnightly basis.

Preps begin borrowing on a weekly basis from the beginning of TermT. All students require a cloth library bag to participate fully in the library program and these are available from the school office. Even an old pillow case is suitable for transporting books to and from the library.

Students also have the opportunity to borrow before school each day from 8.30am and at first break.

Our teacher-librarian is more than happy to discuss the enjoyment and learning needs of each of our students. Please feel free to visit before school.
